Ports manager, Matthew Tipton, has looked overseas for his latest signing as he captures New Jersey, USA born Goalkeeper Robert Edwards. The ex Red Bulls u23 shot stopper has signed for the upcoming season and comes highly recommended to the Shamrock Park Management Team. Edwards has had a successful collegiate career with teams such as Monmouth University & Mount St Mary’s University and the 23 year old will be making his first move this side of the Atlantic with eyes on a successful professional career.

Edwards had the following to say on his move to Portadown,

I am incredibly excited to be joining the Portadown FC family and cannot wait to get started with the club. After spending my career thus far in the states, I look forward to making the jump overseas and challenging myself within an incredible environment. This is a big year for the club as we push for promotion, continuing to build on a strong showing from last season. Than you to the Portadown Staff for this opportunity. I’m unbelievably excited to meet the Portadown fans, teammates and community and look forward to what will be an incredibly thrilling season.

Assistant Manager David Miskelly spoke on the capture of the American Goalkeeper,

It is with great delight we welcome Bobby Edwards to our club. Bobby comes to us very highly recommended from contacts both from home and in the States and we now look forward to watching him in action at Shamrock Park. He has expressed in our contact the willingness, desire and enthusiasm to be part of our club. It was also great to hear that he had done his research about the club which is very refreshing, especially from someone so far away. From a goalkeeping background, I believe he has all the attributes needed to be a huge success at our club.
