Portadown manager Matthew Tipton has brought former first team coach and III’s manager Chris Wright back to the club in the role of Analysis Coach within the backroom staff at Shamrock Park.
Chris is no stranger to Portadown having held various positions at his boyhood club over the past 8 years. He managed Portadown III’s with whom he guided to Harry Cavan Youth Cup success in 2014 before departing to join Matthew Tipton’s coaching staff at Warrenpoint Town in 2016. Chris would follow current Ports boss Tipton back to Shamrock Park as first team coach in February 2018 and would also become the club’s Community Development Officer. Chris has more recently been assistant manager to former Portadown defender Kris Lindsay at Dungannon Swifts and held the same role at PSNI for the second half of the 2019/20 campaign.
Portadown manager Matthew Tipton had the following to say on Chris’s return as analysis coach:
I’m delighted to get Chris back to the club. Whilst his role won’t be the one he left in terms of coaching it’s going to be valuable to us in terms of his knowledge of the game & offering us an opinion from a different viewpoint. Added to that he will also take on board some post game analysis through the video side & that’s going to be vital with what looks like is going to be such a short turnaround between games next season.
While Chris had the following to add:
I’ll be working closely with the manager to give a ‘third eye’ view on matchday, detailing player in game statistics and allowing for extra detail on individual and team performance.
After leaving and being assistant manager at two other clubs I didn’t think the opportunity would come round again to rejoin the club but when Matthew called to discuss this new role I was excited and immediately accepted. To be able to help the team with extra detail on return to the Premiership is exciting and I cant wait to get going when football finally returns.
It’s no secret I’m a Portadown fan and I can’t put into words just what it means to come back and work for the club and for Matthew and David.
