In a change to the club’s pre season training game schedule Portadown will now play League of Ireland side Derry City at Shamrock Park on Saturday 10 October with a 3pm kick off, the Ports were previously penciled in to play neighbours Annagh United on this date.
Derry City, managed by former Glentoran goalkeeper Declan Devine, who currently occupy sixth spot in the SSE Airtricity League have played a number of Irish League teams over the past few months in training games including beating Larne 1-0 at Inver Park, drawing 0-0 with Cliftonville at Solitude and beating Coleraine 1-0 at the Showgrounds back in July.
With several players having played for both clubs over the years including Peter Hutton, Sandy Fraser, Neil McCafferty, Darren Kelly, Paul Carlyle, Ken Oman and Paul Doolin the two clubs are no strangers to each other and last met in July 2001 in a 0-0 draw at the Brandywell.
Online tickets for the game along with all the relevant information will be released in due course so keep an eye on the club website as well as our social media feeds.
