Portadown are back in Danske Bank Premiership tomorrow (Sat 6 March) with the first of a Mid-Ulster derby double header as we take on Glenavon at Shamrock Park, kick off 3pm. The game will be streamed live on We Are Ports TV LIVE via the 247.tv platform at a cost of £5.

Last time out in the Dankse Bank Premiership Portadown were on the end of a 2-0 defeat to Coleraine at the Showgrounds while Glenavon were held to a 1-1 draw at Mourneview Park by 10 men Carrick Rangers to extend their unbeaten run to six matches.

Last time the two sides met was on the opening day of the 2020/21 Danske Bank Premiership campaign back in October 2020 with the Ports running out 4-2 winners at Mourneview Park thanks to a brace from Stephen Murray as well as goals from Lee Bonis and Aaron Burns, this being the Ports first victory over their Mid-Ulster rivals since September 2014 (bar being awarded the 3 points for the Boxing Day derby in 2016 after Glenavon fielded an eligible player). The Ports last success over Glenavon came at Shamrock Park in November 2014 in a 3-2 victory thanks to goals from Chris Casement, Sean Mackle and Mark McAllister – a win that put Portadown top of the Premiership on goal difference. The last time the two clubs met at Shamrock Park was in the semi-final of the Mid-Ulster Cup in November 2017 with Glenavon winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Adam Foley and Jordan Jenkins while Peter Duffin replied for the Ports.

Glenavon will be boosted by the return of Player of the Month nominee and former Portadown winger Conor McCloskey who missed the draw with Carrck Rangers due to suspension and will be further buoyed by the news last night that manager Gary Hamilton has signed a three-year extension to his contract.

The new 30 minute ‘Matchday Live’ programme which will be live and for free over on our We Are Ports TV Youtube channel ahead of tomorrows game. This is what Portadown manager Matthew Tipton had to say on tomorrows game

We look forward to a double header against Glenavon this weekend in what is a strange situation in that it’s something I’ve never been involved with over my whole career. Whilst there is two games against the same team we are only looking at tomorrow’s game & wanting to get 3 points from this fixture with the hope that leads into Tuesday night.

We are all aware that we haven’t won at home all season & there is no better time to put that right than in a local Derby.

We have a few niggles but nothing major so it is a full squad to pick from apart from the two long term injuries Paddy & Callum.
