Portadown are back in Danske Bank Premiership this evening (Tues 9 March) with the second installment of a Mid-Ulster derby double header as we take on Glenavon at Shamrock Park, kick off 7:30pm. The game will be streamed live on the BBC NI Sport website as well as the BBC iPlayer.

Just over three days ago Portadown were victorious by 4 goals to 1 over their Mid-Ulster rivals in a pulsating game at Shamrock Park and will be looking to pick up where they left off on Saturday afternoon when the two teams meet again this evening.

Saturdays win against Glenavon was Portadown’s first competitive win at Shamrock Park in over a calendar year, a 7-1 win victory over Queens University in the Bluefin Sport Championship on 15 February 2020 being our last home victory, a game made famous by Chris Lavery’s viral goal after Adam Salley’s goal bound strike got stuck in the mud. It was also our first home victory in the top flight of Northern Irish football in almost 4 years, a 1-0 win against Ballinamallard United on 14 April 2017 thanks to a Ross Larkin goal was our last success at Shamrock Park in the Danske Bank Premiership prior to Saturday.

Glenavon will go into the game without Andrew Doyle and Jack O’Mahony, while James Singleton misses through concussion. Lee McNulty is suspended following his red card during Saturday’s game and there will be a late fitness test on Michael O’Connor.

Our new 30 minute ‘Matchday Live’ programme continues this evening and will be live and for free over on our We Are Ports TV Youtube channel ahead of the game. On air from appox 6:45pm Mark Beattie and Jonny Dunlop will bring you live team news as it comes in, discuss the game and have live interviews ahead of the BBC’s coverage starting at 7:30pm.

This is what Portadown manager Matthew Tipton had to say on this evenings game

We have a clean bill of health & the challenge for the players is to follow up Saturdays performance with one of the same energy & intensity tonight. We fully expect a massive reaction from the Glenavon players so it’s up to us to combat that.
