Portadown are back in Danske Bank Premiership action this Saturday (17 April) when we take on Cliftonville at Shamrock Park, kick off 5:30pm and streamed live on the BBC iPlayer & BBC NI Sport website.

Cliftonville are coming off the back of a 2-2 draw with Crusaders at Seaview last Saturday while the Ports come into the game following a 1-0 victory over Dungannon Swifts on Tuesday evening.

The last time the two clubs met was back in February 2021 at Shamrock Park when they played out a 1-1 draw with Adam McCallum heading an equaliser for Portadown in the  90th minute, this was Portadown’s first goal in their fourteenth attempt against Cliftonville (the last Ports goal against Cliftonville coming courtesy of Gary Twigg in January 2014) and brought a halt to Cliftonville’s 13 game winning streak over the Shamrock Park men.

As the above stat suggests Portadown have a pretty sorry recent record at Shamrock Park against Cliftonville losing five of the last six and without a win in the last twelve with the last win over Cliftonville at Shamrock Park coming back in February 2011 with goals from Alan Cawley and Kevin Braniff.

Portadown manager Matthew Tipton spoke to the Portadown media team ahead of tomorrows game and had the following to say:

We go into tomorrow’s game after a successful week & we want to build on that with another solid performance against a good Cliftonville team.

Whilst we have a whole host of knocks & niggles the good thing with a young squad is recovery comes a lot quicker as well as the enthusiasm to keep playing regardless of what is thrown at them.
