Portadown make the journey to the Ballymena Showgrounds on tonight (Tues 27 April) when they take on Ballymena United in the first round of the Sadler’s Peaky Blinder Irish Cup, kick off 7:45pm.

Ballymena United come into the game following a 2-1 defeat to neighbours Coleraine on Saturday at the Ballymena Showgrounds, their third straight defeat meaning they’re now without a win in their last 5 games.  Portadown on the other hand come into Tuesday nights cup tie on the back of a 3-1 victory over Warrenpoint Town on Saturday, their fourth victory in their last five games.

The last time the two clubs met was in March at the Showgrounds with Ballymena United running out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Shay McCartan and a Paul McElroy penalty, Luke Wilson was on target for the Ports. In fact Ballymena have won eight of the last ten meetings in all competitions between the two clubs with the Ports last victory over the Braidmen coming back in April 2016 at the Ballymena Showgrounds when Portadown ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Ken Oman and Matthew Parker.

Portadown and Ballymena United have met each other three times in the Irish Cup since 2010, with Portadown winning an Irish Cup semi final between the sides in April 2010 via a penalty shoot and also winning another semi final against the Braidmen in 2015 at the Oval. The last Irish Cup meeting between the sides came in 2019 with Ballymena United running out 4-1 winners at the Showgrounds.
