Portadown are back in Danske Bank Premiership action tomorrow (15 May) when we take on Carrick Rangers at Shamrock Park, kick off 3pm.
Carrick Rangers are coming off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Larne in the Irish Cup on Tuesday evening while Portadown have had the novelty of a 10 day break, coming into the game following a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Mid-Ulster derby rivals Glenavon on Tuesday 4 May.
The last time the two clubs met was back on 10 April at Shamrock Park when Portadown ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Ben Tilney & Lee Bonis.
Portadown have a poor recent record against Carrick Rangers losing seven of the last ten however our record at Shamrock Park against Niall Currie’s men is far better with only one defeat in the past eleven games.
This is what Portadown manager Matthew Tipton had to say ahead of tomorrows game
We approach tomorrow’s game refreshed from 10 days off which as well as physically has helped the mental aspect of this strange season & I’m hoping that tomorrow we can show the brightness that I’ve seen this week during the training sessions.
The break unfortunately hasn’t helped the injury situation too much with the 3 long term casualties still out but Luke has had his operation now & will start his rehab next week. Barney tore his hamstring away at Ballymena in the cup & we’ve made the decision to let him rest & heal properly so that he’s ready for next season instead of rushing him back. Stephen Teggart & Sam Warde both missed the last game with tightness/soreness in hamstring & groin area but they should both be back tomorrow.
With a bit of luck by the time I write my next pre game notes we will be seeing fans back into the stadium for the first time since December & it will be fantastic to see everyone again.
