Last weekend (22nd & 23rd May), a young Ports team travelled over the Burnley FC’s training ground to compete in the Barnfield Festival, consisting of teams included in last weekend official club link ups with Burnley FC. The young Ports team competed really well and in the end proved themselves very capable of mixing it with the teams from Ayr United, Llandudno, Stockport County and Burnley.
Burnley’s Academy Head of Coaching, Ian Jones, spoke to burnleyfootballclub.com:
The whole weekend went really well, it was an excellent opportunity to collaborate on a collective coaching network and share best practice ideas with the other clubs. We’ve already started to talk about making it an annual event. For the kids, they got to play 340 minutes of football on the first-team pitches in a fantastic environment. It was played in an excellent spirit and they will go away with great memories and experiences.
