It is with great sadness that all at Portadown FC received news of the untimely passing of former Ports midfielder/defender Kevin McKeever.

Kevin, a product of the Tristar Boys Club, joined Portadown FC in late 1987, making his debut in a 0-0 draw with Bangor at Clandeboye Park on Boxing Day 1987.

A few months after making his debut Kevin was dramatically sent off late on in an Irish Cup semi-final tie against Glentoran, which the Ports lost 3-2 at Windsor Park.

Kevin, affectionately known by the fans as “Big Tree”, spent just over four and a half seasons at Shamrock Park, scoring 12 goals in 189 appearances. He made 43 appearances scoring 7 times during the clubs’ first title winning season in 1989/90 and a further 42 appearances scoring twice in the 1990/91 double winning season.

He left Portadown to join Glentoran in 1993 before achieving further trophy success with Derry City.

We send our sincere condolences to the family circle and friends of Kevin McKeever at this sad time.
