Portadown are back in Danske Bank Premiership action tomorrow afternoon (Sat 13 November) when we take on Carrick Rangers at Shamrock Park, kick off 3pm.
Carrick Rangers are coming off the back of an impressive 0-0 draw with title contenders Coleraine on Saturday at the Loughview Leisure Arena while Portadown were beaten 2-1 after extra time by league leaders Cliftonville on Tuesday evening in the League Cup, in league matters however the Ports had a great 0-0 draw at Shamrock Park last Saturday with reigning champions Linfield.
The last time the two clubs met was back in September with a Mark Surgenor penalty separating the two teams as Carrick Rangers continued their winning streak against Matthew Tipton’s men at the Loughshore Leisure Arena. On home soil for the Ports though it’s a different story with only one defeat in the last 13 against the Amber Army at Shamrock Park.
Last season it was honours even in the four Premiership meetings between the two with both clubs winning their home games against each other, Carrick Rangers were 4-1 & 5-3 winners against the Ports at Taylors Avenue while Portadown were 2-0 and 2-1 winners over Carrick Rangers at Shamrock Park. The Ports strike force of Lee Bonis and Adam Salley were amongst the goals between the clubs last season with Lee Bonis scoring 3 goals and Adam Salley two in the four meetings.
There always seems to be penalties involved when the two sides meet with three penalties awarded in the past five games between the two and five in the last five games at Shamrock Park.
Here’s Portadown manager Matthew Tipton’s preview of tomorrows game
We go into tomorrow’s game buoyed by the 2 performances we have seen in the past week against Linfield & Cliftonville which has given the boys a real boost in knowing that with the right application all over the pitch we can match any team in the league. What we have to do now is match everything we have done & raise it in certain areas to get the result we want.
Carrick have had a good start to the season & Stuart will have them fired up to get a result so we will have to stand up to them as well as taking the game on the front foot.
We will give the players who are carrying knocks as long as possible to assess them pre game tomorrow.
Eoin Teggart will be back in the squad after missing Tuesday but Harry Anderson is still on u21 duty.
