Portadown are back in Danske Bank Premiership action tomorrow (Sat 20 Nov) when we take on Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park, kick off 3pm.
Dungannon Swifts come into the game following a 2-0 defeat to Coleraine at the Showgrounds on Saturday, their fourth straight defeat in all competitions. Portadown were held to a 2-2 draw by Carrick Rangers on Saturday at Shamrock Park following a 90th minute equaliser by Carrick’s Jordan Gibson, the Ports had led 2-0 up until the 70th minute before being pegged back – this was the Ports third draw in their last five Premiership games.
The last time the two clubs met was in September with Dungannon Swifts running out comfortable 4-1 winners at Shamrock Park thanks to goals from Ryan Mayse, Joe McCready, Cathal McGinty and Rhyss Campbell, this was Dungannon Swifts first points of the 2021/22 Premiership campaign and they have only picked up a further 3 points since – a 2-0 win over Carrick Rangers in October.
Portadown have a good recent record against Dean Shiels men winning four out of the last five against the County Tyrone club including picking up 3 points on both visits to Stangmore Park last season, a 3-0 win in December 2020 and a 1-0 win in March 2021. Trips to Stangmore Park have proved notoriously difficult for the Ports with those victories last season being the first at the Swifts since 2014, up until that 3-0 victory at Stangmore in December 2020 Portadown had lost on their previous 4 visits.
Here’s what Portadown manager Matthew Tipton had to say ahead of tomorrows game
Tomorrow’s visit to Dungannon is one we are looking forward to with the focus on putting last week’s disappointment behind us. To play so well & be 2 goals up & come away with only a point felt like a kick to the gut however we had a good chat about a few different things on Tuesday night with the focus firmly set on getting the win tomorrow.
If I talked about all of the injuries & illnesses that have affected us this week I’d need to write a whole web page on it. What I will say it was good to have Harry Anderson back training with us last night after his trip away with the u21s. I’m sure it was a frustrating time for Harry as he didn’t play any minutes whilst looking at our games knowing he would have had a few opportunities to play. He now has to make sure he’s ready when called upon to make an impact for us.
The officials are – Referee – Ross Dunlop / Assistant 1 – Gareth Eakin / Assistant 2 – Boddan Sfirloaga / 4th official – Peter McGrath
