Portadown are back in Danske Bank Premiership action tomorrow (Sat 22 Jan) when we take on Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park, kick off 3pm.
Dungannon Swifts come into the game off the back of two successive Premiership victories, against Warrenpoint Town on Tuesday evening and a highly impressive win away to title challengers Larne on Saturday, while Portadown held Coleraine to a 0-0 draw at Shamrock Park last time out.
The last time the two clubs met was in November with Dungannon Swifts running out 4-2 winners at Stangmore Park with goals from Joe McCready x2, Rhyss Campbell and Darragh McBrien, Dungannon Swifts had led 2-0 after only 6 minutes howver goals from Paul Finnegan and Sammie McLeod seen the Ports draw level before two late goals by the Swifts sealed their second successive 3 points against Matthew Tipton’s men this season, back in September Dungannon Swifts ran out comfortable 4-1 winners at Shamrock Park thanks to goals from Ryan Mayse, Joe McCready, Cathal McGinty and Rhyss Campbell.
Portadown have a good recent record against Dean Shiels men winning four out of the last six against the County Tyrone club including picking up 3 points on both visits to Stangmore Park last season, a 3-0 win in December 2020 and a 1-0 win in March 2021. Trips to Stangmore Park have proved notoriously difficult for the Ports with those victories last season being the first at the Swifts since 2014, up until that 3-0 victory at Stangmore in December 2020 Portadown had lost on their previous 4 visits.
Like Portadown, Dungannon Swifts have been busy in the January transfer window adding former Ports players Declan Dunne and Garry Breen to their ranks along with Derry City winger Marc Walsh while defender Keith Cowan has departed for Drogheda United.
Here’s what Portadown manager Matthew Tipton had to say ahead of tomorrows game
Tomorrow sees us make the short trip to Dungannon who are on a high after 2 great wins over the past week or so. What we must do is look at ourselves & take the positives from our 2 clean sheets in a row.
We’ve had another week of training with the new players getting more time on the pitch where we have been working hard on being more creative.
In terms of injuries we will be without Nathan Kerr who had a knock to his knee which needs some rest. Paddy McNally & Callum McVeigh are now in full contact training with an eye on a reserve game in the next week or so.
The officials are – Referee – Ian McNabb / Assistant 1 – Stephen Donaldson / Assistant 2 – Brian Wilson / 4th official – Ben McMaster
Entry to tomorrows game is pay at the gate with no tickets required. All U12’s are free when accompanied by an adult
