It’s back to Danske Bank Premiership action as the Ports welcome table toppers Glentoran to Shamrock Park for a 7.45pm KO.
Portadown come into the game following a 2-0 Irish Cup defeat while Glkentoran progressed through after a convincing 4-0 win v Queens University at the Dub.
This match could see league debuts for Ports’ new signings in Josh Chatee, Billy Stedman and Katego Mashigo after all three made their club debuts in the Irish Cup at the weekend.
The two teams have met each other twice so far in 2021/22, with Glentoran coming out on top both times at the Oval, first up was a 2-2 draw on 23rd October with Conor McMenamin putting the Glens in front before Michael Ruddy put Ports back level. It was the home side who took the lead again this time with a Jay Donnelly penalty before Lee Bonis earned the Ports a point on 81mins. As Ports went back to the Oval on 4th December it was Ruddy on the scoresheet again with a thunderbolt from distance but the Glens eventually ran out 3-1 winners with goals from McMenamin and two from Jay Donnelly.
You have to go back to December 2015 for the Ports last victory of the Glens at Shamrock Park in a goal laden 5-3 win, Ports goals coming from Gary Twigg x2, Darren Murray x2 and Robert Garrett while Glentoran replied through Marcus Kane and Curtis Allen x2.
