Portadown Football Club is delighted to announce Paul Hunniford has accepted the role of club President.
Paul has a long association with Portadown, initially arriving at Shamrock Park as commercial manager he was appointed as a director in 1978 and took on the role of Chairman between 1993 & 1995. Paul’s business ‘Roy Paul Motors’ was also the club’s main shirt sponsor between 1988 and 1991.
Even after stepping down as a director Paul has been a familiar face on matchdays at Shamrock Park and has continued to follow the Ports up and down the country along with his son Peter who is a current director at the club.
While Paul takes on the President position at Shamrock Park we also welcome former Chairman Roy McMahon to the position of vice President.
Roy succeeded Paul as Chairman at Portadown in 1995 and oversaw two Premier League titles as well as two Irish Cups before stepping down in 2017.
Going forward the role of President at the club will be held by an individual for a maximum of two years at which point the existing vice President will step into the Presidents role with a new vice President appointed.
We’re extremely pleased that Paul and Roy have accepted the positions of President and vice President of Portadown Football Club and we wish them every success in their new roles.
At this time it would remiss of us not to mention the former incumbent of the Presidents position at Shamrock Park, the late and much missed Noel Dalzell,
Noel was appointed President of the club in 1998 and held the role until his passing in 2011. It was well known that the position was something Noel was extremely proud and honoured to hold with the Markethill man described by former Portadown manager Ronnie McFall as someone who you could listen to talking about football all day as well as a great servant and benefactor of the club whose death left a real void.
Noel’s legacy has always lived on at Shamrock Park and was reinforced in 2013 with the business he founded in 1956, now under the direction of Noel’s son and daughter in law Trevor and Sharon, Dalzell’s of Markethill adorning the shirts of the club.
