Portadown are back in Danske Bank Premiership action this Saturday (Sat 17 Sept) when we face Larne at Shamrock Park, kick off 3pm.
Both teams come into the game off the back of victories in the League Cup on Tuesday evening, Portadown with a 5-0 win over Armagh City and Larne with a 5-1 win over Lisburn Distillery. In Premiership matters Larne drew 1-1 with Crusaders last time out while Portadown were beaten 2-1 by Cliftonville.
The last time the two sides met was back in January 2022 with Larne running out 4-0 winners at Inver Park, while the last time the two sides met at Shamrock Park was in November 2021 with a 89th minute Davy McDaid goal salvaging a point for Larne in a game that ended 2-2 – Portadown had led twice through goals by Adam Salley.
Larne have been busy in the transfer marker over the summer bringing in defenders Shaun Want and Aaron Donnelly, midfielders Leroy Millar, Shea Gordon, Max Hutchinson and Daniel Kearns and Paul O’Neil arriving from Glentoran. Heading out the exit door at Inver Park have been Dean Jarvis, Lee Lynch, Kofi Balmer, David McDaid, John Herron, Ronan Hale, Conor Devlin and Navid Nasseri.
Portadown captain Paddy McNally had the following to say ahead of tomorrows game
After an impressive performance against Cliftonville in our last Premiership game, despite the result not being the one we wanted of course, shows that there are signs or real progress in this team. This was followed up by an impressive League Cup win midweek and scoring 5 goals certainly doesn’t do us any harm in terms of momentum building however we are very much aware that this is a results business and we need to start putting points on the board.
Another good test for us against a top full time team awaits us tomorrow and again it’s one we will go into confident and positive.
The officials are – Referee – Christopher Morrison / Assistant 1 – Bogdan Sfirloaga / Assistant 2 – Brian Wilson / 4th official – Tony Clarke
