Portadown are back in Danske Bank Premiership action tomorrow (Sat 29 Oct) when we travel to the Showgrounds to take on Coleraine, kick off 3pm.
The Ports come into the game with a new manager following Paul Doolin’s exit on Tuesday evening and the subsequent appointment of Niall Currie on Wednesday. Niall returns for a second spell in charge at Shamrock Park after previously been at the helm between 2016 and 2018.
The last meeting between the two clubs was back in August 2022 with Coleraine running out 2-0 winners at Shamrock Park thanks to a brace from Matthew Shevlin.
Portadown’s victory over Coleraine back in March last season was their first win over the Bannsiders since 2016, for a victory at the Showgrounds however you’ve to go all the way back to New Years Day 2015 and a 1-0 win thanks to a Mark McAllister header. Coleraine have won 10 of the last 13 (one of these being an automatic 3-0 win) Premiership meetings between the sides.
Coleraine come into the game without a win in their last four Premiership games and with only two victories in their last eight while the Ports have just a solitary point on the board after eleven games and are rooted to the foot of the table.
Portadown Manager Niall Currie gives us his thoughts on the game below
This is just the beginning of a road, we will learn a lot tomorrow but the very least we want is all the players looking hungry.
It will take us a few weeks to understand our best 11, but it’s a clean slate for all and I hope they sieze their chance as some will not get a bigger club than this.
The officials are – Referee – Jamie Robinson / Assistant 1 – Andrew Nethery / Assistant 2 – Adam Jeffrey / 4th official – Stephen Gregg
