Portadown are back in Danske Bank Premiership action on Sunday afternoon (4 December) when we take on Newry City AFC at the Showgrounds, kick off 2pm.
Newry City AFC come into the game off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Cliftonville at Solitude last Saturday while Portadown were beaten 2-0 by Glentoran at Shamrock Park.
The last time the two teams met was back on the 15 October with Newry City AFC running out 3-1 winners at Shamrock Park thanks to goals from Daniel Hughes, James Teelan and Ciaran O’Connor, Portadown had taken the lead through Alberto Balde with what has proved to be, up until this point, Portadown’s last Premiership goal.
The last time the two sides met at the Showgrounds was back in November 2019 in the Championship, Portadown would run out 2-1 winners thanks to a brace from Adam Salley.
Portadown will be without the suspended duo of Billy Stedman and Mark Russell with Luke Wilson and Katlego Mashigo also missing out with injury however Jordan Jenkins returns to the squad after missing the Glentoran game.
Newry City AFC will be missing Ciaran O’Connor, Declan Carville and Philip Donnelly who are all suspended.
Children under the age of 11 do not require a ticket for the game but will be able to gain entry along with an adult or concession ticket holder for just £1 – please bring the correct change.
Online tickets are available via the following link however a cash gate will be available – https://embed.futureticketing.ie/c/newry-city/away-fans/
Portadown manager Niall Currie gives his thoughts on the match below
Luke Wilson is a big loss for tomorrow as he got his knee drained during the week but on the positive side hopefully that’s him cleared to play injury free the rest of the season which will be a massive plus to us.
Katlego (Mashigo) also misses out tomorrow with injury while Leo (Donellan) still has a niggle in his hamstring but hopes to be available.
We’ve got to build on a really good performance against Glentoran by backing it up tomorrow at Newry and as long as the performances are right and effort levels are there you’ll always give yourself a chance.
