Portadown are back in Danske Bank Premiership action tomorrow evening (Fri 24 Feb) when we take on Dungannon Swifts at Shamrock Park, kick off 7:45pm.
Both sides come into the fixture off the back of victories, Dungannon Swifts were 2-0 winners over Newry City AFC last Friday night at the Showgrounds while Portadown were 3-1 winners over Glenavon in the Mid-Ulster derby on Saturday evening.
Portadown have already met Dungannon Swifts four times this season with the Swifts winning three of those meetings. The Swifts were 2-0 winners on 23 September 2022 in the Premiership thanks to goals from Rhyss Campbell and Ryan Mayse, they would go on then to knock the Ports out of the League Cup on 4 October 2022 by winning 2-1 thanks to a brace from Rhyss Campbell with Jonah Mitchell on target for the Ports and follow that up by knocking the Ports out of the Mid Ulster Cup in November 2022 with goals from Padraig Lynch, Michael O’Connor & Ben Cushnie (2) securing a 4-2 win – Jordan Jenkins grabbed a brace for Niall Currie’s men. The last meeting between the two sides was in the Premiership in January 2023 with the game ending in a 0-0 stalemate at Shamrock Park.
Portadown are without a win against Dungannon Swifts in their last eight games, conceding nineteen goals during that period.
The officials are – Referee – Lee Tavinder / Assistant 1 – Ken Ross / Assistant 2 – Andrew Nethery / 4th official – Glen Buchanan
Portadown manager Niall Currie had the following to say on tomorrow evenings game
We have Paddy McNally and Alberto Balde out through injury and of course Josh Archer who is suspended so that is hugely disappointing – three massive blows to everything we’re doing but it is what it is. We understand that it’s a massive massive game but even with those players out we feel we can be really really competitive.
When they get everything right Dungannon Swifts can be a decent side and they’re coming off the back of a victory against Newry City AFC last week but it’s all about us and keeping our levels so that will be the focus.
We’re hurting with the absence of McNally, Archer and Alberto but we hope we have a massive crowd coming tomorrow night to give us that 12th man and we will give it everything we have as I feel we’ve a massive chance if we’re at our levels.

With more families and community / youth groups visiting Shamrock Park on match days, the club has decided to re-launch our FAMILY AND COMMUNITY AREA. BLOCK B in the home stand has been designated as this area, a traditionally slightly quieter block and further away from opposition supporters. We recognise that football matches are noisy and passionate experiences for players and fans alike but we would also like children, families and community visitors of mixed abilities and needs to feel comfortable when they visit a match, for some, their very first football match.
Guidelines for supporters sitting in Block B will be clearly displayed at the front of that area and we encourage all patrons in the block to follow them:
- PLEASE BE AWARE OF THOSE AROUND YOU.
- PLEASE USE APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE.
- BE POSITIVE TOWARDS PEOPLE ON THE PITCH.
