Portadown Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Wright as the Club’s Head of NIFL phase.
Chris is of course no stranger to Shamrock Park having previously served as First Team Coach, Analysis Coach and Community Development Officer not to mention his time as Portadown III’s Manager where he would guide his side to Harry Cavan Youth Cup, Mid-Ulster Youth Cup & NIFL Youth League Section B success during his tenure.
The Portadown native has also worked as Reserve Team Manager and First Team Coach at Warrenpoint Town under Matthew Tipton, Assistant Manager at Dungannon Swifts under Kris Lindsay and at the PSNI under Glenn Taggart.
On returning to the club, Chris – who will oversee the development of the Club’s U16s, U18s & U21s, commented
I am extremely proud and excited to return to the club, my club, in this role. To work with this group of passionate and likeminded staff at the club to develop the player pathway to the first team and beyond is something which really resonates with me and I look forward to helping these exciting young players and hard working coaches to maximise our opportunities going forward.
Portadown Manager Niall Currie added
We are delighted that Chris agreed to become head of the NIFL phase, as Manager of this club I recognise the importance of a working pathway to first team level.
Chris has an excellent pedigree as a first team coach at Premiership level so he is in a great position to advise young players and support the coaches to provide the best environment for the players to thrive.
I believe this is an exciting time to be part of Portadown FC, as you can see with the number of academy players who have featured or have been playing in the Irish league pyramid. Bringing in people with experience of what is needed and a background in the game is essential to this so I am delighted to have Chris on board and I wish him all the best moving forward.
