Portadown Football Club is delighted to announce that Mark Russell has signed a new one year deal with the club with the option of a further year.

The 27 year old Scottish midfielder joined the club in the summer of 2022 following spells with Greenock Morton, Falkirk, Finn Harps and Galway United and went on to make 39 apperances, scoring 1 goal in his debut season at Shamrock Park.

On Russell committing his future to Portadown, Niall Currie commented

We’re delighted, obviously Mark had his troubles during the season but I felt in the last two or three months when we got him properly fit that he was as good as any left wing back in the league.

It was always going to be a big job to get him to stay here as ultimately he’s a full time footballer but I was absolutely delighted with his attitude, his commitment to the club and we think he’ll be an absolute superstar in the Championship next season. He has every trick in the book and we think we’ve got a top top left hand sided player who can add a bit of everything.

We’re over the moon to get him on board for a season with an option of a further season as well, that’s true commitment from him and we’re delighted.

On penning a deal to remain at Shamrock Park Mark Russell added

I’m just delighted to re-sign and get my future sorted at Portadown.

It was an easy decision after the way the season ended and I felt it was only right that I come back and put the wrongs of last season right.

I love it at Portadown and the fans have been great with me so I’m looking forward to getting back to it.
