Portadown are back in Playr-Fit Championship action tomorrow (Sat 23 Sept) when we face Ballinamallard United at Shamrock Park (Kick off 3pm).

Portadown come into the game off the back of a 2-0 win over Knockbreda while Ballinamallard Utd were beaten 1-0 by Institute last time out.

Ballinamallard Utd have lost their last 4 Championship games with their last win coming back on 19 August in a 3-0 win over Knockbreda, so far this season in the Championship they’ve recorded two wins and five defeats.

The last time the two clubs met was back in October 2021 in the League Cup with the Ports running out 1-0 winners at Shamrock Park thanks to a Lee Bonis goal. In league matters you’ve to go back to January 2020 for the last meeting when a Luke Wilson injury time equaliser secured a 3-3 draw for Portadown, the Ports had been leading 2-0 with a brace from Adam Salley before Ballinamallard United took a 3-2 lead.

Ballinamallard United’s last win at Shamrock Park came back in August 2019 with a Ryan Campbell goal sealing a 1-0 victory for the Mallards. In the last five games between the clubs it’s two wins a piece and a draw while at Shamrock Park Portadown have won three of the last five with Ballinamallard Utd picking up that victory in August 2019 and the teams playing out the 3-3 draw in January 2020.

On tomorrows game, Portadown manager Niall Currie commented

The boys are in great tune but we have had Eoghan McCawl and Gary Thompson missing from training through illness and can only hope they are available tomorrow as we literally are down to the bare bones, we have Paddy McNally, Dougie Wilson and Chris Rodgers all still missing as well so we rely on Luke (Wilson) and Dale (Montgomery) to pull us out again.

It’s never ideal asking players to play out of position but Luke and Dale have been superb, Eamon Fyfe will also be absent unfortunately too but we keep going through a very difficult time.
