Portadown are in BetMcLean League Cup action this evening at Shamrock Park as we take on Premier Intermediate side Coagh United in the first round, kick off 7:45pm.

Portadown come into the game off the back of a 2-1 win over Ards on Saturday while Coagh United were 2-1 winners over Oxford Sunnyside in the Bob Radcliffe Cup.

Coagh United were newly promoted to the NIFL pyramid and the Premier Intermediate League this season after beating Oxford Sunnyside in the Premier Intermediate League Promotion Play-Off back in June however life back in senior football has proved difficult with Coagh United losing all 3 of their league games to date with only one goal scored in those fixtures. They did however beat Banbridge Town 1-0 in the BetMcLean League Cup preliminary round back in August to secure a spot in the first round proper of the competition.

Portadown & Coagh United were of course together in the inaugural IFA Championship back in 2008/09 with Coagh United able to come through their two league fixtures against the Ports undefeated, Coagh United winning 2-1 at Hagan Park in October 2008 and then holding Ronnie McFall’s men to a 1-1 draw at Shamrock Park in March 2009 – Tim Mouncey was the Ports goalscorer in both fixtures with a certain Stuart Dallas part of the Coagh United squad.

Portadown’s record against Coagh United reads as played 9, won 7, drew 1 and lost 1.
