Portadown are back in Playr-Fit Championship action tomorrow afternoon (Saturday 24 February) when we face Ballinamallard United at Ferney Park, kick off 3pm.

Portadown come into the game off the back of a 4-0 defeat to Newington on Tuesday night while ironically Ballinamallard United’s last game was also against Newington, with the Mallards running out 2-1 winners at Inver Park.

So far this season Ballinamallard Utd have played 28 league games, winning 12, drawing 5  losing 11 and currently sit 7th in the Playr-Fit Championship.

The last time the two clubs met was back on Saturday 23 December 2023 with Ballinamallard Utd winning 3-0 at Ferney Park with goals from John Edgar, Darragh Byrne and Josh McIlwaine. The two clubs had met previously this season, back on Saturday 23 September 2023 at Shamrock Park with Portadown winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Kenny Kane and Ryan Mayse

Portadown manager Niall Currie commented

I’m not here to make any excuses for Tuesday night, we looked out on our feet and that’s the penalty you pay with catch up with our cup runs unfortunately. With Dougie (Wilson) suspended and Brandon (Diau) injured we had to ask Luke (Wilson) and Dale (Montgomery) to come in without hardly a moment between them on a pitch the last number of weeks but I certainly won’t be blaming them on our performance, we were off it in midfield and every department if honest.

With the three games a week Thursday basically has became a recovery session which is not ideal but the price you pay for the cup runs.

I will ask though that perspective is well and truly needed at this time, yes we are extremely frustrated after the opportunity missed on Tuesday night but this group of players I will not hang out after a run of one defeat in 11 games, we will stick together as a group and do our best to prove the doubters wrong.
