Portadown Football Club are delighted to confirm that 17 year old Joe McKay has signed his first professional contract with the club.

Joe joined the PFC youth system at the club at the age of 13 in 2019 before progressing through the ranks and going on to pick up the U18s Managers Player of the Year in 2023. He would break into the reserve squad towards the end of 2022 before making his first team debut against Lurgan Town in the Mid Ulster Cup in September 2023, the Newry native would make a total of 4 first team appearances in 2023/24 for Niall Currie’s side.

The talented midfielder also attends the The NIFL Academy Player Scholarship Programme and was part of the NIFL Scholarship Select squad who participated in the Dallas Cup in March.

On Joe signing his first professional contract Portadown manager Niall Currie commented

Joe trained with the first team all last season. He has shown good promise and as with our young talent, we have taken the decision to sign him and continue his development. Joe is progressing well and are delighted he has put his trust in Portadown to continue that development.

Joe added

I am absolutely delighted that I have signed my first professional contract here at Portadown and I wouldn’t want to do it any where else as the coaching staff and the players guide & push me on here massively. They have brought the very best out of me and hopefully there’s more to come.
