Portadown Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Jamie Ray from Ballinamallard United.

The goalkeeper joined the Mallards from Fermanagh & Western side Enniskillen Athletic in August 2019, going on to make his senior debut in a North West Cup victory over Newbuildings United in September 2021.

Portadown supporters will remember Jamie’s man of the match performance for Ballinamallard Utd in a League Cup game at Shamrock Park back in October 2021 with Lee Bonis’ first-half strike the difference as Portadown booked their quarter-final place with a 1-0 win as the young shot stopper made save after save to keep his side in the tie with a string of big stops in the second half.

The 20 year old made 24 appearances for the Mallards last season, keeping 7 clean sheets.

On making the switch to Shamrock Park, Jamie commented

I was delighted when Niall called me, once a club the size of Portadown want you you don’t turn them down.

I’m really looking forward to getting started here in the next week or so and doing my very best for the club.

Portadown manager Niall Currie added

We’re delighted to get Jamie to the club, we profiled a young keeper who we feel will have a great future and learn so much from a top professional like Aaron McCarey.

Having played so many first team games for Ballinamallard United at such a young age we feel Jamie is that one, he’s very ambitious and I feel this is perfect for his learning and development however make no doubts that with the experience he has got from Ballinamallard United he’s ready to go.
