Portadown Football Club is delighted to announce that Aaron McCarey has signed a 1 year contract extension, committing his future to the club until the summer of 2026.
Aaron (32), whose previous clubs include Wolves, Walsall, York City, Portsmouth, Bury, Ross County, Dundalk, Cliftonville & Glentoran, joined the Ports in May this year and has put in a series of superb goalkeeping displays to cement himself as a fan favourite at Shamrock Park.
The shot stopper has also represented the Republic of Ireland at Under 17, 18, 19 and U21 level and was named in senior international squads by both Giovanni Trapattoni and Martin O’Neill with his last call up coming as recently as 2018.
On Aaron McCareys contract extension, Portadown manager Niall Currie commented
We’re delighted to get the big man on board for next season. Hopefully we’re showing our wonderful supporters that we are not a club that just accepts losing our best players, we will fight to continue to build as there is no other way to progress if the big boys are just going to come in and pluck our assets.
Aaron is loving his football again and has been a massive presence both on the pitch and off it, we’re over the moon to have another year with him.
