Portadown Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of James Teelan following his release from Crusaders.
Teelan, 22, began his career at Shamrock Park within the youth system at the club before leaving for Dungannon Swifts in 2020.
However it would be at Newry City where James would make his senior breakthrough, joining the club in 2021 he would make 87 appearances and score 27 goals across two seasons on his way to helping City win the Championship title and promotion to the Premiership.
His standout performances at the Showgrounds prompted Stephen Baxter to secure his services when he brought the talented winger to Crusaders in May 2023, he would make 24 appearances over 18 months at Seaview as well as spending the second half of 2023/24 on loan at Carrick Rangers.
James will officially join the club when the transfer window opens on 1st January 2025.
On adding Teelan to his squad, Portadown manager Niall Currie commented
We’re delighted to get James on board, he’s explosive and will carry a real threat.
We felt we needed to strengthen our wide areas and James can play right across the front line as well as a number ten.
We thought it was a great opportunity for us and he was popular with a few other clubs but we felt his electric pace and the qualities that he has can be a game changer for us.
He comes after not featuring regularly at Crusaders but we’re confident we can get his career going in the right direction again and give him the platform to get back to his very best.
James added
I’m delighted to sign with Portadown as they are a massive club and doing very well in the league this season.
I feel as though Niall is the right manager to get the best out of me and I can’t wait to get started and playing in front of the supporters.
