Portadown return to action on Thursday (26th Dec) as we make the short trip to Lurgan to face Mid Ulster rivals Glenavon at Mourneview Park for a 3pm KO.
The Ports come into the game off the back of a narrow 1-0 win at home to Crusaders whereas Glenavon come into the game off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Linfield.
The previous time the two sides met came on the 23rd of November at a sold out Shamrock Park. The game started lively when a long ball from Ports keeper Aaron McCarey eventually found its way to forward Eamon Fyfe who brought the ball down for the oncoming Ahu Obhakhan who calmly slotted past Glenavon keeper Gareth Deane to put the Ports ahead inside the first 10 minutes. Despite the wet and windy conditions the game lived up to expectations as both sides played out a fiesty affair going into the half time break.
The second half was one that had very few chances until mid way through the half a ball through the Glenavon defence by Ports defender Lewis MacKinnon found winger Ryan Mayse who squared it to Ben Wylie only for it to fractionally ending up behind the forwards feet leading to the chance being cleared. It would be a tight affair until not long before full time when a low free kick from Glenavon ended up at the feet of defender James Carroll who turned it in for what he thought was an equaliser only for the linesman to have called it for offside which was the last opportunity of the game as the full time whistle went not long after confirming the 3 points for Niall Currie’s side.
