The Ports return to action this weekend (Sat 1st February) when we travel to Inver Park to face reigning champions Larne, kick off 5:30pm.
The Ports come into the game following a disappointing 3-2 defeat away to Crusaders while Larne come into the game off a 2-1 win against Ballymena United.
Larne are undefeated in their last five Premiership games, dating back to 1 December and have added H&W Welders duo Tiarnan O’Connor and Josh Kee along with Olatunde Bayode and Harry Panayiotou in January while departing Inver have been Levi Ives and Joe Thomson while Benji Magee has returned to Loughgall on loan in what has been a busy transfer window for Gary Haveron.
The last time the two sides met came was back on 27th October at Shamrock Park with the Portadown winning 2-1. Larne had taken the lead through an Aaron McCarey own goal when a Conor McKendry rebounded off the post hitting the Ports keeper and going into the back of the net before Eamon Fyfe equalised with a header from a superb Paul McElroy cross and a Shay McCartan wonder goal from inside his own half won the game for Niall Currie’s side.
Portadown’s last victory away to Larne came in our opening Championship game of the 2017/18 season when we won 3-0 at Taylors Avenue thanks to goals from Niall Henderson, Matty Hazley and Kyle McVey, Larne were ground sharing with Carrick Rangers at the time due to ongoing works at Inver Park. Portadown’s last win at Inver Park came back in January 2017 in the Irish Cup when a debut goal from Adam Foley as well as a Stephen Hughes goal secured Portadown’s place in the next round.
