The Ports return to action this weekend (Sat 22nd Feb) as we travel to the Ballymena Showgrounds to face Ballymena United in the Sports Direct Premiership.
The Ports come into the game off an emphatic 2-0 home win against the champions Larne while Ballymena United held high flying Glentoran to a 1-1 draw.
The last time the two sides met was on the 1st of November as a game with few chances for both teams came alive in the last 15 minutes after a Ballymena United free kick was cleared out of the Ports box and ended up at the feet of Ports forward Josh Ukek who ran through one on one with Ballymena goalkeeper Sean O’Neill before calmly tucking the ball under him to give Niall Currie’s men a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later a loose ball was picked up by Portadown midfielder Shay McCartan and he threaded it through the Sky Blues defence to Ryan Mayse who rocketed a shot past O’Neill to double Portadowns lead. With four minutes remaining of the 90 a ball played down the wing by midfielder Luke Wilson was perfectly placed into the path of Eamon Fyfe via Ryan Mayse and he rounded off a successful night by adding a third to give the Ports all 3 points.
