Portadown Football Club is delighted to announce that Shay McCartan has signed a contract extension which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2026.
The 30-year-old has penned a new deal at Shamrock Park after becoming a key component of Niall Currie’s side this season, making 33 appearances and scoring 4 goals including a goal of the season contender against Larne back in November.
The midfielder can boast 200 games in the Football League for Burnley, Accrington Stanley, Lincoln City & Bradford City as well as stints in the Irish League with Ballymena United and Glentoran and has 2 full Northern Ireland caps following appearances against New Zealand & Costa Rica between 2017 & 2018.
On signing a new deal at Shamrock Park, Shay commented
I’m delighted to sign for another year, the gaffer has brought good people into the place that makes it really enjoyable to work in.
We’ve had a good season this year and want to progress next season and I think we’ve the squad there to do so.

We’re delighted to get Shay on board again for next season, we know next season is going to be even more difficult but having Shays experience and quality will only help us attract more quality that we’re going to need.
Shay feels at home and that is the environment my staff and myself wanted at our club. Shay and Aaron McCarey were our two big signings of last season and the help they gave getting others on board was huge.
