Everyone at Portadown FC is saddened to learn of the passing of Frank Gillespie.
Frank joined The Ports in May 1971 as Gibby McKenzie set about rebuilding a team that had finished bottom of the league the previous season. He was signed in a player exchange deal which saw goalkeeper Tom Coburn head to Ards.
Frank was a proven goal scorer having hit the net 19 times for Ards in the 1970/71 season. He scored 10 times for Portadown in 1971/72 but unfortunately, he was unable to secure a regular starting place in a side with Brian Morrison and Trevor Anderson forming a formidable strike partnership.
In May 1972 Frank was on the move again to Carrick Rangers.
