Portadown Football Club can confirm that Eoghan McCawl will depart the club this summer upon the expiry of his contract after almost 2.5 years at Shamrock Park.
Eoghan joined the club from Dundela in January 2023 and went on to make 70 appearances, scoring 3 goals since his debut in a 0-0 draw against Dungannon Swifts on 2 January 2023.
The popular midfielder picked up a Championship winners medal during his time at Shamrock Park and made 11 Premiership appearances in the season just gone as Niall Currie’s men finished 8th in their first season back in the top flight.
On Eoghan’s departure, Portadown manager Niall Currie commented
It’s a sad day for me personally, as Eoghan has played a huge part in our club being in the great situation we find ourselves in now.
Not only is Eoghan a wonderful person, but also a fantastic player. Unfortunately he had a nightmare of a season last year with injuries and that coincided with Shea (McCartan), Ben (Wylie) and Rabbi (Minzamba) coming in and being super in that position so my only concern was always about game time for Eoghan the season ahead after last season, I feel that will be limited and I’ve too much love for Eoghan to not tell him that.
He will go somewhere and play regularly like he deserves; I thank him hugely for what he gave to our club and wish him everything ahead, thank you ‘Owsie’.
