Portadown Football Club is delighted to confirm that Aaron Traynor has signed a new one year contract to remain at the club until the summer of 2026.
The 34 year old defender who has had spells at Lisburn Distillery, Carrick Rangers, Coleraine and Cliftonville arrived for a second stint at Shamrock Park in September 2023 after previously playing for the club between 2013 & 2014. The experienced full back has made 51 appearances for the club over his two spells in a red shirt and impressed last season at centre back following injuries to Lewis MacKinnon and Baris Altintop, making 13 appearances in all competitions.
On signing on at Shamrock for another year, Aaron commented
I’m happy to sign on for another season, after being part of the team that got us promoted and then having a stable season last year I want to help kick the club on and secure being a competitive team again in the Irish league on a consistent basis.
I’m enjoying my time at the club and there’s a good group of players here complimented by a hard working back room team and it’s something I want to be a part of.
I had a few offers but after speaking to Niall this was a very easy decision, I want to keep challenging myself and help push the standards of the club to the next level.
Portadown manager Niall Currie added
Aaron has simply been a fantastic signing for us from the day and hour we signed him, he showed me at the end of last season how important of a squad member he is to us with his personality, but more importantly when we needed him at centre back in the last third of the season he was outstanding.
He had better offers than ours, that I know, but he has loved being at our club and we have loved having him, so we look forward to another year.
