Portadown Football Club is delighted to announce Andrew Newell as our new reserve team manager, replacing the outgoing David McCullough.
Andrew comes with rich experience of both working at under 20 level, as a former Loughgall reserve manager and former Portadown U18 and reserve player.
On Andrew’s appointment Head of NIFL phase, Chris Wright commented
We are delighted to welcome Andy to the club.
Replacing the last coaching team was always going to be challenging but to get our number one target in Andy is superb. His passion and knowledge of this level is vital to the role, enabling him to create an environment which will be both demanding and enjoyable and ultimately develop the next players to progress into the first team panel.
Andy, like ‘Bunty’, is someone I’ve been wanting to bring to the club for a long time and I’m delighted to welcome him and look forward to him getting started.
While Andrew added
I’ve had a break from coaching over the past few months so the batteries are recharged and I’m really looking forward to getting started.
When a club the size of Portadown, one of the best clubs in the country, call it’s impossible not to get excited about the opportunity. Chris has kept in touch regularly these past few months keeping me updated with all the developments round the club.
I have really fond memories of my time here playing for the U18 and reserves teams, I played with some fantastic people that I am still friends with today and I had some brilliant coaches that helped shape me as a player and coach.
I fully understand the importance of the role and the responsibility to develop young players for the first team, this is something that I am highly motivated in achieving.
I’m looking forward to getting to know the players and getting stuck in.
