Portadown Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Josh Carson from Ballymena United.
The 32 year old midfielder joined Ballymena United from Coleraine in June 2024 and featured 33 times during an 18 month stay at Warden Street.
Carson came through the youth ranks at Ipswich Town, breaking onto the scene under Paul Jewell and going on to feature 33 times for the Tractor Boys, netting five goals and earning four full Northern Ireland caps during his time at Portman Road.
In 2013 Josh made the move to York City, before returning to his native Northern Ireland in 2016 to join Linfield.
The Ballymena native would depart Windsor Park in 2017 to join Coleraine and was integral as the Bannsiders lifted the 2018 Irish Cup as well as the League Cup two years later.
Excited by his first acquisition of the January transfer window, Ports boss Niall Currie commented
We’re delighted to get a player of Josh’s undoubted pedigree and quality, I have been a huge fan for many years.
He’s hungry and I could feel that from him right from our first conversations.
I totally expect him to quickly become a big favourite at our club, I’m sure our supporters will appreciate this lad.
On signing on at Shamrock Park, Josh added
Firstly I’m over the moon to get this deal across the line, I can’t wait to get started.
I’m hungry, passionate and I’ve a burning desire to be successful and what to expect from me is nothing less than 100% every time I cross that white line.
