Portadown Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Jamie Barry.
The Irish goalkeeper arrives at Shamrock Park after spending the past four years playing collegiate football in the United States. Having developed his game in the League of Ireland at under-age level with Dundalk and gaining valuable experience overseas, the 23-year-old has returned home to the Republic of Ireland and becomes the latest addition to David Jeffrey’s squad ahead of the new season.
Barry began his footballing career with schoolboy clubs St. Malachy’s and Malahide United before earning a move to Dundalk in 2018. A spell with Raheny United followed in 2019 before he returned to Dundalk later that year, remaining with the Lilywhites until 2022.
Seeking a new challenge, Jamie made the move to the United States to combine his education with football. He first represented Niagara University before continuing his collegiate career at William Carey University.
Portadown FC Head of Recruitment and Football Operations, David Douglas commented
Jamie has been in with us over pre season working closely with our goalkeeping coach, Simon Hunter.
We have seen him in games as a trialist and believe that he has the ability, attitude, drive and hunger to be a very good keeper for Portadown.
He is a good age profile and has previously played at Dundalk before furthering his studies in the USA.
Jamie will fill the void left by Alex Moore who has moved abroad.
Portadown manager David Jeffrey MBE added,
Jamie is a tremendous talent with great ability and huge potential.
He’s a goalkeeper who we believe can really develop and progress with us, and importantly, he gives us proper competition for the goalkeeper position.
Having two quality goalkeepers pushing each other every day can only be a positive for the team, and we’re delighted to have Jamie on board.
